What About The Pur Plus Water Filter Pitcher?
Maybe you want a cheap way to replace bottled
water and filter it
yourself. The Brita is of course a choice.
Another popular option is
the Pur Plus Water Filter
Pitcher
. These pitchers and dispensers are about as easy to use as anything
you can get. The cost isn't bad either. But do they work?
The Pur water filter pitcher has a 2 stage filter that
does
several things well.
For one, it gets out microbiological cysts (cryptosporidium and
giardia), which the Brita doesn't. Since these filters include carbon
in the elements they do a good job removing chlorine and improving
taste. Taste is a strong point of Pur water.
Also the filters reduce harmful minerals like
lead, cadmium, copper, mercury and zinc. Fluorine stays in, right or
wrong.
The filters get out most pharmaceutical drugs too
and quite a few agricultural chemicals as well.
If
you have very hard water or lots of sediment in the water, the small
elements will likely clog fairly quickly. But for many uses these work
a long time. How long?
Well the suggested life of filters is about 40
gallons of water.
What's
a replacement filter cost? At this writing a replacement filter is in
the $7 range. That puts a gallon of water at about 18 cents, not
counting the initial cost of the pitcher at about $25 or so. Of course
the life of the filter could be less too.
The Pur Plus Water Filter Pitcher
is cheap, easy to use and works quite well.
